Latest information regarding works

Details of roadworks related to the A9 Dualling Programme will be provided here.

Our contracts will require construction to be carried out in a manner that aims to minimise disruption for road users and residents. Traffic management measures, such as speed limits and coned-off areas are necessary to protect both road users and road workers. Our contractors will be required to:

  • keep open one lane of traffic in both directions to minimise disruption, where possible;
  • implement speed restrictions (e.g. 40mph) on sections of the A9 affected by works for the safety of road workers and road users;
  • restrict any lane closures to night-time and periods when less disruption is expected. Road closures may be required for specific activities such as bridge beam lifting, demolition, rock extraction and constructing carriageway tie-ins;
  • implement restrictions to the use of certain roads during construction if necessary; and
  • work with Transport Scotland to keep road users and those affected by restrictions informed.

Contractors will be incentivised to bring dualled lengths of the road into operation on a phased basis where possible once works on those phases are complete , even if work on other phases of their contract are ongoing.
